1900 THE BRISCOE ENDOWMENT

1900 saw a radical change in the fortunes of the BCF when a hotly contested legacy in the will of Lt Colonel Hylton Briscoe was released to the Charity five years after his death. Little is known of the life of the man who left half of his personal fortune to the Charity but the income from his endowment funded almost all aid distributed in the 20th century. Only in the face of major upheavals were appeals to the public needed to bolster the income from his bequest.
